Forage and Weave: an introduction to basketry

Join us at Vesper Meadow to create your own Pine Needle Baskets-

Learn to harvest and use local materials to sew a Pine Needle Basket utilizing a using a simple coiling method. Participants will gain insight in to age-old techniques, while being able to exercise creativity and modern designs. Tools and materials will be provided for you.

The Ponderosa Pines at Vesper Meadow are perfect for creating a round or oval Pine Needle Basket. No experience needed. (Recommended age 10 and up)

Instructor Diane Ericson - A passionate maker and teacher. Her studio is in the historic district of Ashland Oregon. She enjoys problem solving, designing garments and sewing patterns, stencil designs, painting and teaching, “Natural materials are always close to my heart. Appreciating nature and being able to make a functional container with wild greenery is magic! I always enjoy the variety of baskets created in a class.”

Tuition: $35 adults / $20 under 18


Bring: A cushion (optional), craft scissors (optional), sack lunch, sunscreen and hat, *wear layers, we will be mostly outdoors

Provided:
example baskets, educational handout, pine needles, needle and sewing tube, raffia and nylon thread.
