Mardon Meadows Stewardship Days: a big collaboration with Vesper Meadow, BLM, Friends of the CSNM and KS Wild

  • Vesper Meadow Restoration and Educational Services LLC 16534 Dead Indian Memorial Rd Ashland United States (map)

Volunteers needed: Join us for a big restoration effort in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument this fall! We are planning to work until it is done, on three dates:

Thursdays, OCTOBER 10th, 17th and 24th

Tuesday OCTOBER 29th

This community collaboration is for the restoration of an upland meadow to enhance water resources, fish and wildlife habitat, and an imperiled pollinatior speces, the Klamath Mardon skipper. After the creation of beaver-based restoration structures in Hoxie Creek earlier this year, the Bureau of Land Management is teaming up with local conservation organizations to build a fence that will help this meadow habitat come back after years of of damage from free range cattle. This is a wildlife hotspot home to charismatic species like elk, deer, mountain lions, and great gray owls.

Volunteers needed! All are welcome to join in this community effort! No experience necessary, and those experienced in fence work are encouraged to participate. Drinks, snacks, and spare gloves will be provided.

Volunteers are advised to:

  • Wear long pants, closed toe shoes, sunglasses/eye protection and ear protection

  • Work gloves, a waterbottle, and a sack lunch

  • Optional: Plyers or fence tools if you have them.

We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Rite Aid in Ashland and make our way into the Monument from there. Carpooling is optional.

This project is a joint collaboraton between the Vesper Meadow Education Program, Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, KS Wild, and the Bureau of Land Management.
